In the scenic city of Ohrid, situated on the western side of the Republic of Macedonia, the annual Ohrid Swimming Marathon is a globally anticipated event that draws both local swimmers and international participants. The event takes place in the stunning backdrop of Ohrid Lake and has become a symbol of the city's aquatic enthusiasm.

Complementing this, the innovative Ohrid Water Center (OWC) project seeks to establish a versatile public sports facility centered around an Olympic-sized pool. However, the OWC's vision extends beyond swimming. It aspires to create a welcoming space for diverse visitors, including tourists, families, and spectators. The
center's ambition is to promote a wide array of water-related activities on Ohrid Lake, spanning from windsurfing and rowing boats to canoes and kayaks.
This proposal gained recognition in 2015 when it secured a spot among the top five finalists for a prestigious award. This acknowledgment highlights its potential to redefine the intersection of sports, tourism, and community engagement. As Ohrid remains dedicated to its aquatic heritage, the Ohrid Swimming Marathon and the visionary Ohrid Water Center stand as testaments to the city's enduring commitment to celebrating water's captivating allure in various forms.
